PSI Membership

PSI Inductees  2023

Membership in Chi Omega 263 is open to qualified candidates with no exclusion to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and/or familial status.

Members shall meet the following minimum criteria for membership.

Collegiate Members. At the time of initiation, Collegiate members shall be students enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs and pursuing a curriculum with a major/minor in:

  • Foreign Languages, including Classics and ESL
  • Foreign Language Education
  • Secondary Language Acquisition
  • International Studies
  • Other interdisciplinary programs with a significant foreign language component.

Here are the eligibility requirements that undergraduate and graduate students must meet respectively in order to be nominated to Phi Sigma Iota.

Undergraduates Graduates
shall be currently enrolled students at the 91ÌÒÉ« shall be enrolled in a graduate program in one of the aforementioned programs
shall be enrolled in at least one foreign language course at the 300 level or higher at the time of nomination. shall have attained a high degree of competence in at least one foreign language,
shall have completed 45-semester hours or its equivalent shall have completed 12-semester hours of graduate work or equivalent
shall have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.15 shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.35 in foreign language courses, and rank in the top 35% of their class  

Professional Members. Alumni of collegiate chapters shall be professional members. Others meeting the following criteria may be elected to professional membership: have made a distinctive contribution to the profession and (a) earned one or more degrees in foreign language and ranked within the top 35% of the class as undergraduates or earned a 3.5 GPA as graduate students and not been previously initiated into the Society, (b) faculty of the university, after one academic year of teaching in that institution and having shown remarkable ability in their field as well as demonstrating support of the ideals of Phi Sigma Iota.
