Folly chasing Death

Let the Good Times Roll! This photograph shows one of the icons of Mobile's Mardi Gras—Folly chasing Death around a broken column. This emblem was originally designed by Morton Toulmin in 1867. All three—Folly, Death, and the broken pillar—are symbols of the fallen Confederacy. This image dates to around 1930. S. Blake McNeely Collection. Negative: MN-332.
