Several 91ɫ Collegiate 100 chapter members recently placed second for their research presentation at the 100 Black Men of America’s 38th Annual Conference in Atlanta, where the theme was “C-100 Votes - Voter Education, Registration and Participation Program.”
The South Alabama student participants included KC Crusoe from Wetumpka, Alabama; DeAndre Hill from Mobile; Gary Montgomery from Grand Bay, Alabama; Devin Mosely from Montgomery, Alabama; and Kiryan Wain from Andalusia, Alabama. South’s C-100 Chapter competed against an estimated 30 C-100 chapters nationwide.
At the conclusion of the Collegiate 100 Leadership Institute in April, the South group was invited to present their research at the 100 Black Men of America’s 38th Annual Conference.
“The Leadership Institute gave me a whole different perspective on how young adults can change the scope of today’s society if we come together to learn, problem-solve and collaborate,” Mosely said. “From my experience so far, I have met great people from different backgrounds who gave me advice and support to be strong, studious and charismatic in the world.”
The Collegiate 100 is a college student organization that supports the development of social, emotional and educational needs of young people who need positive role models in the communities in which they live. The 100 Black Men of America Inc. Collegiate Leadership Institute program targets mentees at the collegiate level who are members of Collegiate 100 chapters.
Mosely and Montgomery also participated in a Leadership Academy at JD Finish Line Headquarters in Indianapolis. Through the experience, they gained vital leadership skills and mentorship from corporate leaders at JD Finish Line.
The South advisers are Dr. Michael Mitchell, vice president for student affairs, and Broderick Morrisette, assistant director of strategic initiatives in the Office of Community Engagement.
