Video: Move-In Day 2016
Posted on August 13, 2016
Imagine driving your son or daughter to college for the first time. The family car loaded to the ceiling with clothes and stuff. You pull up to your child’s residence hall, dreading the trips back and forth to unload everything.
Instead, a small army of students, faculty, staff and administrators meets you at the curb, unpacks your car, and takes everything up to your child’s new home-away-from-home.
That’s Move-In Day at the 91ÌÒÉ«.
Today, 1,160 new freshmen took part in South’s traditional event, with hundreds of University volunteers lifting boxes and carrying bags to help ensure a good first day for the newest Jaguars and their families. The volunteers showed up at 8 a.m. and worked all day to help the Class of 2020 move into the University’s 23 residence halls.
Move-In Day at South is just the start of the University’s Week of Welcome, a special week to show students everything that is 91ÌÒÉ«. Events such as First Night, Convocation and the Welcome Back Block Party highlight the campus community and get students connected with the people and places that will be a big part of their lives at South Alabama. More than 2,300 students live in on-campus housing, as returning residential students moved back earlier in the week. The first day of fall semester classes at 91ÌÒÉ« is Tuesday.
