South Students Elect New SGA Officers

The 91ÌÒÉ« has announced the Student Government Association officers for the 2016-2017 academic year. The purpose of the SGA is to protect and advance students’ interests as well as to promote the welfare of the student body. The organization operates as a constitutional democracy and is comprised of executive, judicial and legislative branches.

The new officers:

• Joshua Crownover, 19, of Satsuma, will serve as president. Crownover is a sophomore majoring in business finance. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega, the Honors Program, and Pre-Law Society. Crownover has been named to the President’s List, inducted into several honors programs, and has been named a Mitchell Scholar in the Mitchell College of Business. He is the son of Mitch and Angie Crownover.
• Darshan Patel, 20, of Enterprise, Ala., will serve as vice president. He is a junior majoring in exercise science. Patel is also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Epsilon Delta, the Pre-Physical Therapy Club, Students Today and Alumni Tomorrow and Indian Student Association. He is the son of Bharat and Smita Patel.
• Marcus Williams, 21, of Birmingham, will serve as treasurer for the second consecutive year. He is a senior business and finance major. Williams is a 91ÌÒÉ« Southerner, a member of Alpha Tau Omega, Abeneefoo Kuo Honor Society, and the Financial Management Association. He is the son of Sheila Brooks.
•  JuWan Robinson, 21, of Bessemer, Ala., will serve as attorney general.  Robinson is a junior majoring in secondary education with a concentration in language arts. He is a member of the Abeneefoo Kuo Honor Society, Collegiate 100 and Mortar Board National Honor Society, and is a SouthBound Orientation Leader and a 91ÌÒÉ« Southerner. He is also recognized in Who’s Who Among Outstanding College Students. He is the son of Alicia Jackson and LaShun Robinson.
• Taylor Davis, 20, of D’Iberville, Miss., will serve as chief justice. She is a sophomore majoring in political science and philosophy. She is a member of the Women of Excellence, Jaguar Marching Band,  Pre-Law Society and Abeneefoo Kuo Honor Society. Davis has also been named a Presidential Scholar and Leadership Scholar. She is the daughter of Kevin and Daphne Davis.
• Kinsley Knapp, 19, of Tallassee, Ala., will serve as student-at-large. She is a sophomore majoring in nursing. Knapp is a First Year Council member, Resident Assistant, College of Nursing senator, and a member of the Sustainability Council, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key Honor Society and Honors Program. She has represented South at the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders and is a member of the Early Acceptance Program for the College of Nursing. She is the daughter of Chris and Tammy Knapp and Stephanie Stringfellow.
