Annual Security & Fire Safety Reports

"If you see Something, say DO Something!"

Choosing an institution of higher education is a major decision for students and their families.  Along with academic, financial, and geographic considerations, the issue of campus safety is a vital concern. There is no higher priority for the University of South Alabama Police Department than the safety of our students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.  Although this has always been true, the University has been focusing even more attention on keeping the campus a safe place to learn, live, work, and play.

As the Chief of Police, my highest priority is the safety of the University of South Alabama. This year, I am again pleased to report that through our cooperative efforts, we have been able to minimize the number of crimes that have occurred on the 91ÌÒÉ« campus.

We want to give credit to the entire University community for taking an active role in campus safety. The "If You See Something, say Do Something" campaign and our campus partnerships with the LiveSafe mobile safety app have been a boon in improving our bystander intervention efforts and the reporting of crimes and suspicious behavior in a timely manner.

The Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR) is published in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (known as the Clery Act) and is required to be published on or before October 1st of each calendar year.

The ASFSR contains statistical data on specific Clery-reportable crimes for the three previous calendar years. Please review the definitions for the reported crime categories provided on page 17 of the ASFSR.

The ASFSR records crimes that were reported and occurred at the Main Campus, 91ÌÒÉ« Health University Hospital, 91ÌÒÉ« Health Children's & Women's Hospital, 91ÌÒÉ« Health Providence Hospital (included in the 2024 ASFSR), 91ÌÒÉ« Health Strada Patient Care Center, 91ÌÒÉ« Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, 91ÌÒÉ« Health medical clinics, and 91ÌÒÉ« Baldwin County Campus in Fairhope. Statistical data for crimes that were reported and occurred on public property within or immediately adjacent to the Main Campus and 91ÌÒÉ« Baldwin County Campus in Fairhope are included as well.

The ASFSR also includes information about campus safety.  Areas of discussion in the ASFSR include, but are not limited to, procedures for reporting crimes, crime prevention and safety awareness, campus security and access, timely warnings and emergency notifications, emergency evacuation procedures and policies, notification of missing students, Title IX, etc. The ASFSR also includes fire safety and fire statistics at the end of the report.

Although the 91ÌÒÉ«, including the 91ÌÒÉ« Baldwin County Campus in Fairhope is a safe institution, no campus in America is completely crime-free. We need your help to make sure that you and other members of the campus community remain safe and secure.

You may obtain a copy of the ASFSR by clicking the link provided below for a printable PDF, by calling 251-460-6312, or by visiting the 91ÌÒÉ« Police Department (91ÌÒÉ«PD) in person during normal business hours. 91ÌÒÉ«PD is located at 290 Jaguar Blvd.

Thank you for giving your careful attention to this important information.

The Clery Act requires all colleges and universities to keep and disclose information about crime on and near their respective campuses and about campus safety. To view a copy of the University’s Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, please visit:
