The following video series has been taken from the DVD "A Conversation with Graduating
Seniors". We interviewed four 91ÌÒÉ« seniors and asked them to
share what they've learned about success in college. This conversation will be good
for incoming freshmen, sophomores and anyone who wants to do well in their academic
career.
This chapter discusses the transition from high school to college. It touches on the
importance of finding out what works best for you: personal study skills, time management
and how you learn.
This chapter explores career choice, selecting a major and a minor, choosing classes,
staying on track towards graduation and performing well in your classes.
Advising
This chapter discusses the importance of academic advising, getting to know your advisor,
and discussing potential career ideas or plans for graduate school with your advisor.
Balance
This chapter discusses the need for the balance between your academic demands and
other demands, such as finances and work. A case is made for seeking scholarships
and on-campus employment, including Supplemental Instruction.
Campus Resources
This chapter encourages you to take advantage of campus resources. Topics include
the recreation center, Jaguar Productions and student programs, fun clubs, professional
clubs, and clubs related to your major. Study abroad is mentioned.
Stress
This chapter looks at stress. Advice is given: find an outlet, take a break, reduce
procrastination. Also understand that stress is part of life and college can be a
good time to learn better ways to manage stress.
Final Thoughts
This chapter serves as a recap of the major points of the video and contains final
words of advice from each of our graduating seniors.
